David Beckham eat your heart out

Soccer superstar David Beckham is the epitome of cool grooming internationally - but who cuts it in the "chiselled cheekbones" department down under?

Gillette - the authority on men's grooming - has selected its top five picks, backed by recent research with Kiwis, and is now throwing open the voting for New Zealanders to be the final judge in its inaugural Gillette Best Groomed Champion Sportsman award culminating in a charity event in August for Cure Kids.

Hunky triathlete Terenzo Bozzone, ace ironman Cory Hutchings, racing car driver Greg Murphy, Warrior Brent Webb and up and coming international and provincial rugby star Luke McAlister have been shortlisted and will, for the first time, square off for a title of a non-sporting nature to help a cause dear to their hearts.

The award is designed to celebrate and applaud men who take pride in their appearance and from today the public can vote for the sportsman they think is a grooming god.

"The Gillette Best Groomed Champion Sportsman award aims to show Kiwi guys being well groomed and looking good isn't just something a model or suited businessman can achieve," said Gillette Grooming Business Manager Andrea Spearman.

"The five shortlisted sportsmen all have different looks. Murph often sports funky facial hair, Terenzo has a fresh clean shaven look while Cory has a refreshing surfie style. Luke meanwhile exudes youth and machismo and Brent favours cutting edge cool. It will be interesting to find out which look New Zealanders ultimately prefer," said Andrea.
