'Give Me Five' Requests Plunket And ANZ

'Give Me Five' - Plunket and ANZ ask New Zealanders

Emma Trueman aged three years, of Wellington, and Steven Fyfe, Managing Director ANZ Retail Banking, gather and count 5 cent coins.
Collecting these coins is about to become a nationwide challenge in the lead-up to the withdrawal of 5 cent coins from circulation by October next year.
ANZ today announced its sponsorship of the ANZ "5s for Under Fives" appeal, asking New Zealanders to collect their 5 cent coins and bring them into ANZ branches, where they will be donated to Plunket and used for Plunket's work with children and families in the region they are collected.
"When the idea of collecting the 5 cent coins was first raised, we knew there was an immediate fit between our two organisations, and the local communities in which we operate. And as a bank of course, we are in an ideal position to manage the task of collecting the 5 cent coins" Mr Fyfe said.
"We know there are nearly $30 million of 5c coins in circulation - that's almost 600 million coins. We want to collect as many of those coins as possible."
The "5s for Under Fives" national appeal starts on Monday 27 June and will finish on 31 October 2006. Specially designed collection bins and coin bags will be placed in all ANZ branches.
The initiative was launched at Plunket's national conference in Palmerston North today (subs 10 June).
