On Katherine Rich’s Statement Re. Abuse Conference
MEDIA STATEMENT
17 JUNE 2005
LORNA SULLIVAN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE STANDARDS PLUS
IN RESPONSE TO KATHERINE RICH’S STATEMENT
REGARDING THE MANY FACES OF ABUSE CONFERENCE
“StandardsPlus is appalled that Katherine Rich has taken out of context and seems to have twisted a conference focussed on advancing understanding of the presence, nature and impact of abuse in care environments for what appears to be her own political gain.
“The Many Faces of Abuse conference is aimed at addressing the very real and present impact of abuse on disabled people, older people and those who are mentally unwell within care environments.
“StandardsPlus welcomes informed debate about the issue of abuse in care environments which is the primary goal of the conference.”
