Minister’s priorities good for stroke affected
Minister’s priorities are good news for the stroke affected community
The NZ Stroke Foundation welcomes the Minister of Health’s stated priorities for health, announced today.
“Three of the Minister’s six priorities will have a substantial benefit in reducing the incidence and impacts of strokes in NZ,” says the Foundation’s CEO Mark Vivian.
“The Minister’s focus on chronic disease, in particular obesity, will reduce a very significant risk factor for stroke onset. We also support the increased priority of services for older persons, which is vital given the prevalence of strokes among the older population”, says Mr Vivian.
“Cheaper doctor visits for 45-60 year olds may increase early detection of risk factors such as high cholesterol and blood pressure, which will assist us reduce the rate of stroke incidence,” says Mr Vivian.
