300 kph Flight for Westpac Rescue Helicopter
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter experienced one of its quickest flights ever from the Kapiti Coast to Wellington this morning.
The helicopter was called to transport an 85 year old Kapiti woman who had suffered cardiac arrest. Wellington Free Ambulance and Kapiti EMS staff managed to restart the woman's heart, and requested the helicopter for moving her to Wellington.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter battled strong winds heading north and then landed in the grounds of Southward Car Museum to pick up the patient and a Wellington Free paramedic.
"It took us 25 minutes to get to Southward's but only twelve minutes back" says Westpac Rescue Helicopter pilot Mike Hall. "At one point we were travelling at just over 300 kph thanks to a 40 knot northerly".
The patient was flown to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where she is currently being treated and assessed.
