World Breastfeeding Week 2006

MEDIA RELEASE

World Breastfeeding Week 2006

Wellington City's part in the BIG LATCH ON

A feeding frenzy planned in the country on Saturday August 5th, will see hundreds of breastfeeding women giving their breast effort to be counted as part of an attempt on the New Zealand record for “the most women breastfeeding simultaneously”.

The current record at 654 was set last year during World Breastfeeding Week. Participants had so much fun that Women’s Health Action decided to coordinate an attempt on the record again this year.

Here in WELLINGTON CITY breastfeeding mothers will be gathering at CAPITAL E, Civic Square, Wellington at 10:30am for registration, ready for the nationwide countdown at 11am.

This record attempt is part of World Breastfeeding Week celebrations; August 1st to August 7th every year. The aim of World Breastfeeding Week this year is to celebrate 25 years of the International Code of the Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes.

Petra Bagust is supporting this nationwide event and will be at one of the venues in Auckland. She has also said that she is willing to give interviews for local radio/TV broadcasts. For more information on the Code or this national event see www.womens-health.org.nz. For more information on the WELLINGTON CITY event see this local website www.nurturenz.com/latchon.php
