Healthcare Providers Welcome Aged Care Study

Healthcare Providers Welcome Aged Care Study Findings

HealthCare Provider's NZ (HCPNZ) today welcomed the findings of the ASPIRE project, released yesterday by the Minister of Health, Pete Hodgson.

"We are pleased that the study has confirmed the need to change the delivery of aged care services to meet the changing needs and expectations of our ageing population. The study also confirms residential care will continue to be a major part of the aged care sector in the future" said Martin Taylor CEO of HealthCare Providers NZ.

The ASPIRE project evaluated what happens when packages of care to the elderly are increased, and the focus of that care was to improve independence and delay admission into residential care.

The project also evaluated the costs of providing the increased levels of care, although the financial information will not be available till early next year.

"There is no doubt that what the findings tell us about how to deliver care is significant. However, whether the packages of care delivered to the elderly under the ASPIRE project are financially viable on a nationwide basis is impossible to determine until the financial results are made available. In this regard there is still some way to go before the government and the sector can progress from delivering current levels of care to those packages of care promoted by the ASPIRE project", said Martin Taylor CEO of HealthCare Providers NZ.
