Further ACC Comment on the Covered Advertising Campaign
ACC has agreed to make two small amendments to its Covered television commercial to meet the requirements of an Advertising Standards Complaints Board decision released today.
The Board said the advertisement:
- “took into
account the considerable effort made by ACC in the
production of the campaign to ensure that the advertisements
complied with the requirements of the Advertising
Codes”
- noted that the Television Commercial Approvals
Bureau (on behalf of the media) “considers the statements
in the commercial are factual and for that reason does not
believe the complaint should be upheld”
- noted that
“the advertisement fulfilled the objectives of raising the
public’s awareness about the ACC scheme”.
The two amendments will be to replace the word “hurt” with “injured” and to add an eligibility qualifying statement to the end of the advertisement.
“The changes will make the Covered message crystal clear - ACC can help injured people in their time of need. It’s an important message for all New Zealanders, but especially so for people who fail to get help from ACC for an injury through lack of knowledge of the ACC Scheme,” Dr White said.
