Wattie’s scholarships celebrate Plunket’s century of caring for Kiwis
Two twenty thousand dollar ($20,000) scholarships for the centenary year, were today gifted by Wattie’s to Plunket volunteer and clinical staff at Plunket’s centenary conference in Dunedin.
To honour and celebrate Plunket’s centenary, Wattie’s will award two scholarships in 2007- 2008; one to a clinician and one to a volunteer. Thereafter, one scholarship will be awarded annually on an alternating basis.
Plunket’s New Zealand president, Kaye Crowther, said the gift was a marvelous tribute to the incredibly hard work that Plunket Nurses, Community Karitane, Plunket Kaiawhina and Plunket volunteers had put in.
“We are extremely grateful to Wattie’s for their foresight in providing a gift that will keep on giving. The beneficiaries are not only the scholarship recipients, but all future babies and their families.
“What is so wonderful about this gift is that our clinical staff and our volunteers – those people who actually do the job – can apply for these generous scholarships. The research and study they undertake will be disseminated widely for the benefit of children and communities throughout New Zealand.” says Kaye Crowther.
The topics for the inaugural year are: for the volunteer scholarship, ‘Volunteering – how we make a difference’ and for the clinical scholarship, ‘Community nutrition of the first three years: exploration of priority areas and practice’.
Wattie’s and Plunket have shared a long and successful relationship, working towards a common goal, to improve the nutrition of babies and children in New Zealand.
