Infant Formula Standards Are Critical To Trust

From HJ Heinz (NZ) Ltd

Infant Formula Standards Are Critical To Trust

We can give an absolute assurance to parents and caregivers that all Heinz Nurture infant formula, follow on formula and toddler milk drinks are fully compliant with the Food Standards Code.

“Marketer of the Heinz Nurture range of infant formula products, HJ Heinz (NZ) Ltd, says that the integrity of New Zealand’s Food Standard Code for critical products like infant formulas and baby foods depends on strict observance by all companies selling such products.

“These Standards form a critical part of the ‘trust bond’ between consumer and these products, and it is absolutely essential that this trust is not undermined.

“There may be no issues of safety with the FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) ingredient, but there are processes for the regulation of all ingredients and in terms of the New Zealand market, this ingredient is not yet approved to be added to infant and follow-on formula.

“Flouting the regulations sets a precedent that we believe all New Zealanders would be uncomfortable with because no company should be above the law on matters such as infant formula ingredients.

“Right now the issue is around FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides). In a world of fast developing food and ingredient technologies, who is to say what the next unauthorized ingredient might be.”

“We have been extremely disappointed in the statement which Nutricia Karicare has made in relation to our Heinz Nurture Toddler Milk Drink. Either it is intentionally misleading or they do not understand the Food Standards in New Zealand.

“Toddler milks are regulated under a different food standard for good reasons, and it is totally incorrect to imply that Heinz Nurture Toddler is a ‘formula’.

“Consumers deserve only information which is factually correct and pertinent to the current infant formula issue.”
