“Senior Doctors Welcome New Health Minister Appointment”
“Senior doctors welcome the appointment of David Cunliffe as the new Health Minister,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.
“Mr Cunliffe is seen as a rising and competent political star. His appointment is a positive message about the importance of the position of health minister.”
“He has inherited a very troubled health sector including its medical workforce crisis, the lack of a coherent strategy for the role of public hospitals, and the absence of effective engagement with health professionals in district health boards. We are keen to work with Mr Cunliffe in resolving these challenges.”
“A new fresh pair of ministerial eyes is a good starting point for moving the health system forward,” concluded Mr Powell.
