Second Lab Collection Site Funded For Huntly
Special circumstances have meant Huntly will soon have two Pathlab collection sites - one on the east side of the river and one on the west.
Waikato District Health Board has approved funding outside its original agreement with Pathlab so the north Waikato town can have two collection sites for the first time.
Previously, there had only been one laboratory facility in Huntly west.
"Huntly, as a town, has a unique layout," said Waikato DHB general manager: planning and funding Brett Paradine.
"After much research and consultation, it was deemed appropriate to fund a second collection facility in Huntly east due to the layout of the town with an east/west divide by the river and the generally low socioeconomic status of the population.
"Only having one collection site in Huntly west was going to significantly affect access for residents on the east side of the river."
The new facility opens on Monday, July 21 at 178 Main St, opposite the Huntly East Medical Centre.
Residents from both Huntly east and west are able to access the new facility, which a full-time lab technician will staff.
