New Health Minister meets general practice leaders
General practice leaders look forward to having more input into health matters affecting general practice and primary care services after a constructive introductory meeting between the General Practice Leaders’ Forum (GPLF) and new Minister of Health Hon Tony Ryall today.
Accordingly the two parties will meet on a regular basis throughout 2009 to discuss general practice and wider primary care matters.
“This sends a strong signal to the health sector of the key role of general practice in delivering health services. This was the Minister’s first meeting with a sector group and we are delighted he has begun with general practice. We are very pleased to have established a positive relationship,” says Dr Bev O’Keefe, Chair of the GPLF.
The GPLF comprises representatives from the Independent Practitioners Association Council, the General Practice Nurses’ Alliance, New Zealand Medical Association General Practitioner Council, the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and the New Zealand Rural General Practitioner Network.
