Julie Swindon Medivac'd from Vietnam

Media Statement
For Immediate Release – 3 February 2009

Givealittle.co.nz Project of the week:
Medivac required to bring Julie Swindon home from Vietnam

Givealittle.co.nz is fast becoming the first port of call for those requiring immediate assistance with very real and urgent funding issues.

28 year old Julie Swindon from Wellington suffered extensive head injuries in motorbike taxi accident near Nha Trang, Vietnam on 21 January 2009.

Requiring surgery twice in the first 24 hours Ms Swindon now faces further surgery and a long road to recovery.

Ms Swindon’s medical insurance has now been fully used with an urgent transfer to an intensive care unit in Ho Chi Minh City, where she has undergone further surgery.

The road to recovery will include further surgery to insert a titanium plate into her skull.

Once Ms Swindon is stable she will require an emergency Medivac to New Zealand for ongoing treatment.

Ms Swindon’s Aunt, describes the hospital as a ‘hellhole’ and appealed to Swinden's friends via her Facebook page for assistance to cover medical bills and the cost of flying her home - estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.

Christine Devane, a member of Givealittle and friend of Ms Swindon has created a personal project on Givealittle to facilitate donations to assist in bringing her friend home.
