Film series provides support for Emergency Care
New outdoor film series provides support for Emergency Care medicine.
Christchurch’s Arts Centre hosts film-lovers for five nights this February in a new initiative to support the Emergency Care Foundation (ECF).
Proceeds from the series will go towards supporting the ECF as it seeks to improve the quality of knowledge and practice in emergency medicine.
“The series is a great opportunity to deliver top quality films to Christchurch audiences while highlighting why the work of the ECF is so important,” said ECF board member Bill Dwyer.
The foundation supports key medical specialists Professor Mike Ardagh and Dr. Martin Than in their research into improved diagnostic accuracy and better decision-making. This work covers a range of conditions that can be difficult to diagnose, including heart disease, blood clots in the legs and lungs, and infections such as meningitis.
The level of research cannot be supported through government-funding alone, so the ECF aims to raise public awareness and financial support. To help achieve this a creative partnership between CPIT and Novo brand produced a short film demonstrating the high stakes of emergency care.
ECF Marketing Coordinator Angela Stedman believes the short film will be an important tool to help build a greater level of public recognition for the difficulties medical staff face when diagnosing problematic cases.
The appeal of the film series has been enhanced with the choice of setting. Event Organiser Liza Sparrow said, “We’re thrilled to have such a beautiful location. Watching (the films) amongst the historic buildings and unique atmosphere of the Arts Centre South Quad will certainly appeal to audiences.”
The series takes place between the 15th and 19th of February. Films screening are (in order of appearance) Once, Paris, Lars And The Real Girl, As It Is In Heaven, Happy Go Lucky. Dedicated support from key sponsors Novo Brand, CPIT, Lane Neave Lawyers, Coffee Culture, The Arts Centre and the Eureka Trust have made the series possible.
