Fun Run/Walk on the 3rd May 2009

Fun Run/Walk on the 3rd May 2009

Autism New Zealand Inc. Canterbury Branch is excited to announce the FIRST ANNUAL “ WALK 4 AUTISM AWARENESS”.  The 2k, 5k and 10k Fun Run/Walk will be at Hagley Park , May 3rd, 2009 starting at 9.30am . The World Autism Awareness Day is in April and we hope to raise the awareness in our local community. The Fun Run/Walk will include family activities for all to enjoy as well as information booths on available services from local community agencies.

The primary purpose of this project is to raise awareness of this important issue. Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in New Zealand today.  1 in 100 children born this year will be diagnosed with Autism. There are more than 1,000 adults and children with this disability living in Canterbury .

Our goal is to improve the education and services available in the local community for individuals and families affected by autism, for example training parents and professionals to affectively use communication strategies with their child.  Communication is the single biggest barrier presented by Autism.  The event’s secondary objective is to raise funds to assist Autism New Zealand Canterbury Branch in providing support and access to services for people living and working with Autism.

For an event of such magnitude to succeed, the participation of the entire community is needed. There are several ways you can be a part of this project:

a. By making a tax-deductible monetary contribution on behalf of your company and giving us permission to identify you as a sponsor in related publicity and correspondence. For details on sponsorship levels, please see attached sponsorship form.
