Further to the media release from the Youthtown Trust Rescue
Helicopter,
a 76-year-old Taumarunui man is in a critical
condition in Waikato
Hospital's Emergency Department
following an accident on the Pungapunga
Rd east of
Manunui today.
The Taupo-based rescue helicopter responded
to the call just after
midday where a car and 4x4 ute
collided head on around a bend.
The passengers in the 4X4
sustained minor injuries. The 76 year old
male driver
sustained serious spinal injuries and a dislocated hip.
He
was trapped in his car and had to be cut out by the
volunteer fire
brigade.
He was treated by St John
paramedics and flown to Waikato Hospital for
further
treatment.
