Two Clear Tests, Awaiting One
Test results for two Waikato residents have come back negative for influenza A swine flu.
Waikato District Health Board is awaiting more conclusive results for confirmation.
The two possible cases and their direct household contacts were asked to stay in isolation until the results were negative, or seven days from onset of symptoms.
Waikato DHB is now looking into another possible case.
Medical officer of health Anita Bell advised the person is well.
"Swabs have been taken, and they and their contacts are on Tamiflu and have been advised to stay at home."
Results will be available in about 48 hours.
Waikato District Health Board remains in Coordinated Incident Management Structure (CIMS) today, and in close contact with the Ministry of Health.
"We are relieved that initial test results show our first two possible cases have come back negative. If the situation should escalate however, Waikato residents should know their district health board is well prepared," said Population Health group manager Barbara Garbutt.
"Dealing with influenza and pandemic is our daily business and is something we are prepared for. Not only do we have a national plan, but a regional and hospital plan that we are ready to action if swine flu or any such illness should escalate here."
Medical officers of health have contacted all identified Waikato residents on the NZ1 flight returning on Saturday, 25 April.
These passengers have been prescribed Tamiflu and are advised to stay in isolation.
Anyone with an influenza-like illness who has developed their symptoms within seven days of travel to USA or Mexico, should call their general practitioner or the medical officers of health immediately, said Dr Bell.
