This 59-year-old Turangi man (in the media release below) underwent surgery yesterday at Waikato Hospital and is today recovering in a ward. He lost four fingers and most of the thumb on his right hand. A 20-year-old Gisborne forestry worker is having surgery today at Waikato Hospital after a steel cable he was holding yanked his right hand into a pulley. He lost all four fingers on his right hand in the accident at Wharerata Forest, about 30km south of Gisborne, about 11.30am.
