Book Launch Offers Hope for Cancer Sufferers.

Press Release.

Book Launch Offers Hope for Cancer Sufferers.

With the upcoming launch of his book, ‘You Don’t have to Die When Your Doctor Says’ author and cancer survivor, David Elliot, aims to bring a message of hope to others experiencing cancer, a serious disease or a terminal prognosis.

“When you are told you have cancer or are given a terminal prognosis, like I was, it’s very easy to give up hope,” says David, “But life isn’t over when you have cancer, and your death isn’t determined by statistics, you can make choices that influence your future and your ability to heal.”

David was diagnosed with brain cancer, glioma blastoma multiforme (grade iv) in January 2008 and was initially told that he would have a 90% chance of dying of the disease within two years. GBM is considered to be inevitable fatal and the standard treatment of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not considered to be a cure. “This particular cancer has been in the news lately, and it is usually reported as an inevitably fatal disease”, says David “but this is not totally true, as with every cancer there are survivors. Some people have survived over 20 years with glioma and I intend to be one of them.”

You Don’t Have to Die When Your Doctor Says is a practical guide to living with grace and joy in the face of a terminal diagnosis.  The book explores the importance of belief and attitude in the creation of illness and healing and how the mind in conjunction with allopathic or alternative modes of healing, can be used to empower a healing outcome.

“My message to cancer patients is that nothing is predetermined and anything can happen; we may live as long as our doctor or medical condition predicts, we may live a lot longer or we may be run over by a bus tomorrow. But, regardless of how long we live, the central issue is how we live. I had a terminal prognosis and I have gone through the mill of brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy but I don’t feel like I have to be a victim of this disease. In fact I feel more alive and in appreciation of life than I ever have been.”

The book launch is at the Whitianga public library on Wednesday 24 June at 5.30 and is open to the public.  David will give a short talk about his experience and the power of belief in creating illness and healing and will be available for book signing.

David is also launching the book online at www.survivecancer.info and is making sales in the US through Amazon.com  “I am having a good response from international buyers and expect to build sales momentum over the next few months” he says.   In New Zealand the book is being printed by the online printing service www.publishme.co.nz based in New Plymouth.  “They make publishing a book accessible to anyone,” says David, “and their editorial and printing services help to produce a high quality product.”

What others are saying…
"This is the best book I have ever seen for cancer patients, caregivers, and caring professionals.  It gives simple, yet evocative questions to help align lives and health.  I am ordering 10 for my clinic library.  All my best to David for this amazing work.

Deborah Lindquist, MD, FACP, Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology"

David's book contains a great deal of wisdom derived from his experience. What people need to realize is their potential. No individual is a statistic but one has to have self esteem to attempt to do the unexpected and not be laden with guilt, blame and shame if you do die when your doctor predicted. I recommend this book to everyone who feels insecure about their future. It will help you to live today and give your body a live message too. Self induced healing is not an accident so read on and learn from a true teacher.

David Elliot had a nasty brain cancer and a slim chance of survival. But he didn’t take this as a reason to give in. He began to explore and study in the deepest way, and then to write what may be one of the most enlightening and helpful books anyone with terminal disease, or close to someone with one, may want to read. Compelling, challenging, enlightening, renewing are all words that spring to mind. You Don't Have to Die When Your Doctor Says brings the fullest meaning to the term – a self-help book.                  Graeme Beals, Publisher

“Well done David and not a moment too soon. I wish someone had cared enough 5 or 6 years ago to do what you have done, we could have put it to extremely good use with helping Emily. What an awesome gift to the planet, from a very caring and generous person. Thank you David, who knows how many lives it will save.”  Bruce McGregor, cancer survivor

“Hi David. I love your book. It encompasses every known emotion, but you are still able to make me smile through the tears. Your book will be an inspiration to everyone who reads it, and if they don't get to read it, they will be missing out on an incredible experience.”

Pat Kake, cancer survivor

“This is so beautiful, I love it, love it love it.
Reading this has given me the inspiration to live life to the fullest. And will give some-one else the inspiration to live when they read your book. I had the most enormous shift when I was reading it. And made me realised I lived all my life as a victim, When other people are worse off then me. When people who have a terminal illness do what ever it takes to live longer to see there goals achieved.”

 Nikki Luke, cancer survivor.
