Waikato surgeon appointed associate professor
The University of Auckland's School of Medicine has appointed Ian Campbell as an Associate Professor in Surgery.
A well-known breast surgeon in the Waikato, Ian Campbell has a proven track record in clinical research for improving breast cancer outcomes.
Prof Campbell said his new role will involve building up general surgical research, not just in his speciality area of breast cancer.
"I'll also be helping to establish an academic surgical unit at Waikato Clinical School that will help provide more opportunities for research by our medical students and registrars.
"The role will also involve more teaching" he said.
Prof Campbell will be part of the Department of Surgery in Auckland and will work closely with the academic expertise from the Cancer Research Unit and the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences
He will continue to undertake a clinical service role in breast surgery, endocrine and general surgery in the Waikato.
John Windsor, Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine, University of Auckland, said the department is very pleased with Ian's appointment that is due recognition of his stature.
"He is a highly respected breast surgeon who has, largely in his own time, developed important national and international roles in breast cancer research.
"I am absolutely delighted with this appointment that will greatly strengthen academic surgery at Waikato Clinical School.
"I look forward to working with him to strengthen research that is highly significant to the local and national scene," he said.
Professor Campbell starts in his new role this month.
Waikato Clinical School is a firmly established division of Auckland University's Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
