Media Release 1/8/09
Grey Power NZ congratulates and supports the statements made by the Principal Youth Court Judge Andrew Becroft and the contemplated rewrite of the Sale of Liquor Act as outlined by the Law Commission President, Sir Geoffrey Palmer.
The cost to NZ of Alcohol related issues, in financial, Health and in Social problems cannot be ignored any longer.
For a considerable time fragmented comment has been advanced but with no definite outcome, which is hard to understand, when it would appear that the present ‘soft legislation” has not been effective.
Considerable emphasis, these days is being put on the opinion of youth, and it would appear that many Local Bodies have promoted “Youth Councils” to voice their opinions over various issues. This could prove a healthy balance to blend with Judge Becrofts reported comment and I quote “If I’am sounding like a grey haired old reactionary Judge” !!
Grey Power still adheres to the old standards of “Guide Lines”, “Respect , Discipline and Responsibility and would welcome a response from Youth Organisations on the Standards that they see as important in the changing world we live in now.
