Another member of staff at Tokoroa Hospital has gone home with norovirus-like symptoms bringing the number of those affected to 21, 10 of them patients.
The virus, which results in violent symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting, probably came from the community because at this time of year there is always an increase circulating in the community.
Patients' families have now limited their visits to the hospital or complied with infection control requests around regular hand hygiene practices, said Tokoroa Hospital manager Joanne Knight today.
Waikato District Health Board members will go ahead with their monthly board meeting at the hospital tomorrow - the first ever by the board - but will not undertake a ward tour as planned.
A celebration for the hospital's 40th birthday and staff recognition awards will go ahead but away from the wards.
Tokoroa Hospital has 17 inpatient beds and last year had more than 8780 presentations to its emergency department. About 100 people work out of Tokoroa Hospital but not all in the hospital.
Sixteen staff members, all women, from three Waikato DHB rural hospitals - Te Kuiti, Taumarunui and Tokoroa - will receive long service awards.
Four have 30 years' service, one 25 years, two 20 years, five 15 years and four with 10 years' service.
This year Waikato DHB will invite 400 staff to celebrate 6900 years of experience.
The day at Tokoroa, starts at 9am with a whakatau (welcome) to new board chair Graeme Milne followed by the board meeting, a 40th birthday celebration and then the awards.
