TVNZ 7 Raises Over $40,000 For Stroke Victims
TVNZ 7’s New Artland charity art auction has contributed $40,000 to The Stroke Foundation.
The art auction, held last Thursday, was prompted by the recent stroke suffered by series host Chris Knox. It was held to coincide with the launch of series two of New Artland, with proceeds from the evening going to the Stroke Foundation to fund art therapy and other stroke rehabilitation work.
A number of artists from across the series of New Artland generously contributed works of art and items which sold at auction.
This support came from Dick Frizzell, Grahame Sydney, Virginia King, Wayne Youle, Ronnie Van Hout, Niki Hastings-McFall, Karl Maughan, Jacquelyn Greenback, Seung Yul Oh, Tracey Tawhiao, Alex Monteith and Reuben Paterson.
TVNZ’s General Manager of Digital Services, Eric Kearley, was thrilled to have the opportunity to join the effort:
“Having a real and tangible impact on New Zealander’s lives is an important cornerstone of TVNZ 7’s strategy. It is therefore extremely satisfying when we manage to participate in raising funds that will make a real positive difference.”
Equally impressed by the success of the evening was Mark Vivian, CEO of the Stroke Foundation, who was astounded at the generosity displayed by the bidders:
"Stroke survivors often miss out on opportunities for rehabilitation, which are not well funded in NZ. TVNZ 7 should be congratulated for seeing this need and supporting it with the art auction."
"This was a fantastic expression of community engagement and care by TVNZ 7 - a great follow through of the concept of New Artland."
New Artland is produced for TVNZ 7 by FAT Productions and screens Saturdays at 9.35pm on TVNZ 7 (TVNZ 7 is available on Freeview’s Channel 7 and SKY’s Channel 97).
