Seth Tera patient update - homeward bound
Seth Tera, 15, the Tokoroa schoolboy allegedly chased and hit by a four-wheel drive vehicle in the South Waikato town last month, was discharged from Waikato Hospital today.
His parents John and Liz Tera said the care their son got in the hospital's intensive care and high dependency units was outstanding.
"We didn't know if we'd get our son back again and to be taking him home today is wonderful."
What the doctors, nurses and medical staff did for their son was outstanding, said Mrs Tera.
Seth sustained head and chest injuries after the driver of a four-wheel-drive allegedly chased him for several blocks before running him over in Baberton St, Tokoroa about 3.30am on Saturday 12 September.
The family have added their support to a Waikato Hospital fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday October 6 at the Bryant Education Centre on the hospital campus.
William Pike, the Auckland primary school teacher, who lost his leg when caught in a lahar on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu two years ago, is giving a motivational speech to raise funds for the hospital's intensive care and high dependency units' waiting room.
Another high profile patient, English agricultural student Matthew Purchase who was shot in the head in a hunting accident, also two years ago, raised $5000 for the waiting room in a sponsored walk near his Dorset farm on the weekend.
Mrs Tera said she could not fault the care her son got but the waiting room needed refurbishment.
"It's hot and stuffy. There's no privacy. We felt for other families. When Seth started to get better, we were laughing and joking in one corner while others, in different stages with their family members, were also there.
"I really felt for them.
"If there's anything we can do to help William and Matthew with the fundraiser, we will."
Several members of the Tera family will attend the Tuesday presentation.
