Medicine recall: PACIFIC ATENOLOL

Medicine recall: PACIFIC ATENOLOL (Atenolol) 50mg Tablets

Mylan New Zealand, in consultation with Medsafe, is, as a precautionary measure recalling Pacific Atenolol 50mg tablets which are manufactured by IPCA Laboratories Limited and marketed by Mylan New Zealand.

Pacific Atenolol 50mg tablets are used to treat various heart conditions including high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats and to prevent angina (chest pain).

This recall is a precautionary measure which only affects a single batch. A small number of tablets are visually larger in size and, as a result, contain a higher dose of the medicine.

Pacific Atenolol 100mg tablets are not affected by this recall.

Consumers using Pacific Atenolol 50mg tablets dispensed after January 1st 2010 should:

Return all Pacific Atenolol 50mg tablets to their pharmacy for a free replacement as soon as possible.
Continue to take their medicine. However, they should not take a larger tablet if one is found.
Contact their doctor immediately if any ill effects are noticed.

If patients or medical professionals require any additional information, they can contact Mylan New Zealand on 0800 579 811
