Thames Hospital Gets Another Three Years
Thames Hospital has been granted another three years certification by the Ministry of Health.
All New Zealand hospitals are regularly put to the test to ensure the safe delivery of healthcare through a stringent certification process.
Thames Hospital received certification for providing medical, maternity and surgical services to local residents.
Health Waikato chief operating officer Jan Adams said this is a great achievement and a tribute to the staff who have worked hard to meet the requirements of the Health and Disability Services standards, despite the challenges of their changing environment.
“I wish to acknowledge this achievement and thank staff for their efforts.
“We have come a long way from previous results and must recognise the impact new wards and outpatient areas have on streamlining processes, offering better flow for patients and improving standards.
“The auditors enjoyed their time at Thames Hospital and were very impressed with the new facilities, commenting favourably on the obvious community involvement with the project, particularly the gardens,” Mrs Adams said.
A Certification Audit was conducted at the hospital on 13 and 14 May 2010 and the new certification takes effect on Sunday 11 July and remains until 11 July 2013.
During that time, there are certain conditions for hospital management to meet, including three progress reports by the end of the year and a surveillance visit next year.
The certification process is a standard requirement set by the Ministry of Health under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001.
Its purpose is
to:
• promote the safe provision of health and
disability services to the public
• enable the
establishment of consistent and reasonable standards for
providing health and disability services to the public
safely
• encourage providers of health and disability
services to take responsibility for providing those services
to the public safely; and
• encourage providers of
health and disability services to continuously improve the
quality of those
services.
