New Chief Executive Officer appointed to NZHHA

New Chief Executive Officer appointed to NZHHA

Julie Haggie has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Home Health Association (NZHHA). The NZHHA is the association for organisations providing home health care services. She replaces Jane Cumming, who left at the end of June.

Ms Haggie brings leadership and management experience from her previous role as Chief Executive Officer of the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (a professional regulatory body), and more recently policy and advocacy/negotiations on regulatory matters as a Senior Manager with the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

She looks forward to the many challenges of her new role.

“I will be involved with the revision of the Home and Community Support Sector Standard and will be advocating for it to become a mandatory standard in this sector. There must be a more direct link between quality and funding.

“I have been impressed by the agility of those member organisations I have visited. Many are engaged in the development of innovative projects, despite having restrained resources. Sustainable funding models are needed to allow providers of home support to maintain their current level of safe service and to prepare, as our older population increases, for delivery to more citizens with more complex needs.”

Trish Neal, chair of the NZHHA Executive Committee, says Julie Haggie is well qualified to lead the Association into the future.

“Her strategic and analytical capabilities impressed the appointment Committee. We know Julie will be a very effective representative of the Association.”

Trish Neal also acknowledged the contribution Jane Cumming made to the organisation during her seven years as Executive Officer.

“Jane grew NZHHA into the highly regarded and professional organisation it is today. This included establishing strong relationships with stakeholders, senior officials, ministers and funders; often bringing them together to develop a joint approach to issues.”
