Former Director-General Health Announces New Venture
Stephen McKernan, former Director-General Health New Zealand, today announced his new venture with the establishment of Health Partners Consulting Group Limited.
Mr McKernan says Health Partners’ goal is to work in partnership with health leaders to substantially lift organisation and system performance by “rapidly converting policy into action”. The company will focus primarily on providing consulting services to the New Zealand and Australian healthcare systems.
“Today our health care systems and organisations face an ever increasing set of challenges. These include the rapid increase of chronic diseases, rising consumer expectations, the impact of new technologies, workforce shortages and affordability.
Health Partners Consulting Group has been established to assist governments and healthcare organisations to succeed in this complex environment,” said McKernan.
McKernan has been a chief executive in the health sector for the past twelve years, including the past four as director-general health and chief executive of the Ministry of Health. As director-general health he was the government’s principal advisor on health and disability matters including responsibility for the allocation, monitoring and performance of the thirteen billion dollars spent within Vote Health.
At Mr McKernan’s recent farewell Health Minister, the Honourable Tony Ryall, commented on the “notable achievements which had occurred under McKernan’s watch,” and stated “whichever path your career now travels, you (McKernan) have much to offer the health sector and we look forward to your continuing involvement”.
