New Dementia Care Service Opens in Ohaupo

New Dementia Care Service Opens in Ohaupo

A new dementia facility officially opened at Radius Windsor Court Retirement Village in Ohaupo on Friday last week is expected to alleviate growing demands for dementia care services in the Waikato.

The new dementia care wing was formally opened by Radius Care CEO Brien Cree at a garden party celebration with various local dignitaries and members of the Waikato DHB present.

It is anticipated that the 18 bed secure dementia wing will help alleviate some of the projected demands for specialist dementia care over the next decade. A major review of aged residential care services released by the NZ Aged Care Association last week anticipates a dramatic surge in both aged and dementia care in the next 15 years as baby boomers reach retirement.

Demand for dementia will increase by 154% over the next 15 years and an additional 235 dementia beds will be required every year to meet demand, the report says.

It is hoped that the new Radius Windsor Court dementia wing will help offset some of the growing demands for dementia care and Radius is taking a proactive approach to helping meet demand says Brien Cree, Radius Care CEO.

“Radius is extremely proud to offer Waikato residents a new place where they can receive professional and compassionate care for dementia”, says Cree who operates a total of 21 aged residential care facilities.

“The new dementia wing is an additional service offered within the Radius Windsor Court Retirement Village and rest home and already we are taking a number of enquiries from families seeking specialist dementia care”.

Ten residents moved into the new facility over the weekend where they will get the very best care whilst enjoying the tranquil rural surrounds and stunning views of Mt Pirongia, says Cree.
