Celebrities put their bodies to the test

Eight Kiwi celebrities put their bodies to the test in September and raised a whopping $70,000 for the Heart Foundation’s Heart Health Research Trust.

Elemeno P front man Dave Gibson, film director Taika Waititi, radio personalities Noelle McCarthy and Sela Alo, actor Blair Strang, television personality Mary Lambie, sports reporter Toni Street and the last woman standing on TVNZ’s Apprentice show, business woman Catherine Livingstone, took part in this year’s Les Mills Charity BEATCAMP, which finished last week.

They joined more than 100 other professionals from companies around Auckland, who headed out for an hour of intense military style training, three times a week at the Auckland Domain during September.

Heart Foundation spokesperson Alistair Kirk says:

“The commitment and dedication of all of those who took part was staggering. Crawling through mud at 6.30 in the morning is not for everyone and yet these guys put themselves through it three times a week for a month – and they were still smiling at the end!

“By gaining the support of their friends, family and colleagues, the recruits collectively raised a significant amount of money for the Heart Health Research Trust. This money will be invested into New Zealand-specific research that will prevent heart disease – still the single biggest killer of men and women in New Zealand,” he sys.

“The Heart Foundation is very grateful to the team at Les Mills for pulling together an amazing programme. This is a great example of not-for-profit organisations working alongside leading New Zealand businesses to create a buzz, drive awareness and raise money for research and programmes that will help everyday New Zealanders.”
Les Mills Team Training Manager Karen Holland comments:

“There was an outstanding sense of camaraderie and team unity, and at the end a whopping $70,000 raised for a great cause. Thank you to all our participants who made BEATCAMP a great success story.”
