IHC to Work with
Government And Community Sector
The potential $176 million liability faced by IDEA Services and Timata Hou because of the sleepover case gave the companies no choice but to request government appoint a statutory manager.
IHC New Zealand chief executive Ralph Jones says that IHC will work with the Government and the community sector to find a solution to the massive debt the sector faces as a result of the Employment Court decision on sleepovers.
“The sector is faced with an Employment Court decision that it simply cannot afford and that threatens the viability of many providers,” says Mr Jones.
“While IDEA Services is currently in the spotlight, all service providers will be considering whether they can continue to operate in the face of such a huge liability for back pay and ongoing costs.”
“For 60 year IHC has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities. A well-paid workforce is vital for that to happen. We just want to get on with the job that we are passionate about - supporting people with intellectual disability and their families - and we look forward to working with Government to make that happen.
