Waikids launch at Waikato Hospital
Waikato District Health Board will today celebrate the integration and launch of a new identity for all child and youth health services under the Waikids banner.
WaiKids is short for Waikato DHB Kids reflecting a region-wide service for children and youth.
The name is bilingual and endorsed by Waikato DHB's Kaumatua Kaunihera.
Paediatrics nurse educator, Tracy Jackson said having an identity all health professionals could be part of was very important.
"Child and adolescent health is unique and different," she said.
>From a clinical perspective having the Waikids name provided an identity that children and their family/whanau could identify with.
"It provides the capacity to deliver best practice standards of child-centred and family/whanau focused friendly care," she said.
Waikato DHB graphic designer Tamara Miles designed the Waikids logo which is made up of two components - the typographic name Waikids and the box icon incorporating a stylised koru.
The launch will start at 2pm today at Waikato Hospital led by master of ceremonies Kay Gregory. Entertainment will come from the Hillcrest High School choir while a newly-written and recorded Waikids song will debut.
Waikato DHB chief executive officer Craig Climo, recently named the Waikids champion, is expected to explain why he supports the name and concept and make a significant announcement about the future of paediatrics at Waikato Hospital.
