Pindrop Foundation joins National Foundation
And then there were seven
The Pindrop Foundation has become the seventh national organisation to join the National Foundation for the Deaf Inc.
“Pindrop Foundation is a significant addition to the National Foundation for the Deaf (NFD) and we’re delighted to have them as an NFD member organisation,” CEO Louise Carroll said.
“Our membership now includes organisations situated all the way along the hearing and hearing loss continuum, from the prevention of hearing loss; sound quality; mild to moderate hearing impairment through to cochlear implanting for profound hearing loss. As collaborative members of the NFD they all present a major unified voice for the biggest sensory disability group in New Zealand.”
The NFD membership now comprises The Pindrop Foundation, the Hearing Association, the Federation for Deaf Children, the NZ Audiological Society, the NZ Society of Otolaryngology (representing ear, nose and throat surgeons), the Deafness Research Foundation, and the NZ Acoustical Society.
Pindrop Foundation CEO Lee Schoushkoff said joining the NFD would give Pindrop Foundation another vehicle for supporting cochlear implants, and promoting noise prevention programmes among young people.
“Cochlear implants are life-changing for people with severe or profound hearing loss, offering implantees an opportunity to gain all of the positive benefits of hearing once again,” he said.
“With the NFD’s national work and profile supporting our endeavours, we will have the strength to continue advocating for cochlear implants and be able to contribute our own expertise to the wider hearing disability sector”.
