Outstanding Achievement And Room for Improvement: Health Targets
Waikato District Health Board will be presented with the one and only outstanding achievement award from health minister Tony Ryall today (Friday 26 November) for progress towards the immunisation health target.
National MPs David Bennett and Tim McIndoe will present the award on behalf of the minister to Waikato DHB and primary care immunisation stakeholders at Waikato Hospital at 2pm.
Waikato is the only region to receive an award of this kind after exceeding the 2009/10 quarter four target of 85 per cent, jumping from 73 per cent coverage in June 2008.
“Commitment to improve remains strong among immunisation providers with a number of practices already achieving results well over the 90 per cent target and many of those that are lower than this are working hard to improve further,” said Waikato DHB Planning and Funding general manager and target champion Brett Paradine.
The 2010/11 quarter one results have been released by the Ministry of Health today with Waikato’s results below:

“I'm very pleased we have maintained our excellent performance against the elective services and cancer targets and it is good to see steady progress against the smoking cessation target,” said Health Waikato chief operating officer Jan Adams.
“It’s important to note that we also achieved the shorter target of four weeks for cancer waiting times, which doesn’t come into effect until 1 December.”
The target timeframe is currently six weeks for ‘Shorter waits for cancer treatments,’ but is set to change to four weeks in December.
Mrs Adams said Health Waikato staff continue to work towards the ED target and that she is encouraged at the results at this stage of the overall target period, particularly coming out of a busy winter period with increased demand.
“The Emergency Department at Waikato Hospital has met the 95 per cent target on a number of occasions but the overall figure is an aggregate of all presentations so is affected by other services.
“It’s important to emphasise that this is a whole of hospital target and all areas have a significant role to play in working with ED to help improve performance to meet 95 per cent.”
