Guild launches disaster management guide for members
The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild) has launched a new member resource – a disaster management guide for community pharmacies. The Guide consists of four documents and has been designed to assist members in planning for unexpected events.
“With the Christchurch earthquake affecting so many community pharmacies, as well as disasters overseas like the floods in Australia and the terrible events in Japan, we thought it was timely to develop a tool for members that helps them prepare as much as possible for natural disasters,” says Guild Chief Executive, Annabel Young. “The guide also includes guidance on managing your business during an influenza pandemic and dealing with an armed hold-up.”
The
documents provide in-depth information on:
• managing
natural disasters in community pharmacies
• what
pharmacy owners should do in the event of an armed hold-up,
robbery, theft or assault
• an influenza pandemic and
natural disaster crisis communications plan
• managing
infection control in pharmacies during an influenza
pandemic.
The Guide covers pharmacy owners’ responsibilities to staff and patients during such times, what they will need and what they can expect from their Guild membership at a local and national level.
The guide can be downloaded by members from www.pgnz.org.nz and is for the exclusive use of members. It is not available to non-members
