New poster adds impetus to Be Bold campaign

New poster adds impetus to Be Bold campaign

The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand has a new poster to promote the work of community pharmacists and to give added impetus to its Be Bold political campaign.

The Guild is encouraging its members to display the poster in their pharmacies. It is part of the Guild’s Be Bold campaign to make pharmacists more assertive in speaking out to patients about the important role they play in primary healthcare and the significant issues facing community pharmacy in New Zealand.

Guild chief executive, Annabel Young, says an increasing number of members were speaking up to patients, organising meetings with their local MPs and visiting Ministers and writing letters.

“The fact that it is an election year adds an extra dimension to the Be Bold campaign which is intended to make politicians more aware of how community pharmacy serves communities and the health system and shouldn’t be taken for granted.”

The ‘speech bubble’ poster shows just some of the many ways community pharmacists help their patients and customers. It is designed to underline how community pharmacists are an essential frontline in the healthcare system.

The phrases featured on the poster emphasise the wide range of roles community pharmacy plays in the health sector. For example, my community pharmacist:
• gives me advice on the best time to take my medicines
• studied for four years to become a medicines expert
• ensures my medicines are safe for me
• works closely with my doctor so that I stay healthy
• provides advice to me on what to avoid when I am pregnant
• educated me on how to prevent sports injuries
• is always friendly and approachable about all health issues.

To see what the poster looks like, visit the Guild’s Facebook page or click on the Facebook link on the Guild’s homepage at www.pgnz.org.nz. Members of the Guild are able to order copies of the poster for free from the Guild’s website. They will also be distributed to external stakeholders.
