Brain Injury Awareness Week 15-21 August

Brain Injury Awareness Week 15-21 August

Over 500 Australian’s are living with an acquired brain injury; that is an injury sustained after birth .

Brain injury often affects peoples’ thinking and behaviour making it known for being ‘the invisible disability’ .

August 15-21 is Brain Injury Awareness Week and looks out for those whose injury is out of site but still needs ongoing support .

Tunstall Healthcare supports many people living with a brain injury, which may have been acquired through stroke, accident, trauma and more .

David is in his 40s and experiences drop attacks, meaning he can fall unconscious at any time.

A dangerous drop attack he experienced while on his own forced him to move back in with his parents where he could be supervised 24 hours a day.

David was frustrated by the reduced independence and the likely need to move into a respite centre for older people, until he found out about Tunstall’s 24 hour response service and specialty care sensors.

While in his home David now wears a fall detector that notifies Tunstall’s response centre when David falls, so his parents can be notified and the necessary assistance organised.

“It has saved my life numerous times not only from an assistance point of view but personally,” David said.

“I can now live independently in my own home with the assistance of a helper who comes two hours a day for cooking and cleaning”.

With the support of Tunstall’s 24 hour response centre and specialty care sensors, an acquired brain injury does not have to mean the complete loss of independence.

To find out more about Tunstall’s 24 hour response service visit www.tunstallhealthcare.com.au. To discuss a specialty care solution to suit your needs call 1800 603 377.
