Many turning to online support for dealing with miscarriages
Many turning to online support for dealing with miscarriages
Monday 26 September 2011
The use of online websites like www.miscarriagesupport.co.nz is proving to be a very popular way of helping people come to terms with the tragedy of miscarriage. Like so many other things these days, the internet and social media sites like Facebook have become the first place people turn to for help. One of the Facebook miscarriage pages has over 3700 likes and a large number of people submitting comments everyday.
In the past the pressure has always been on couples who have had a miscarriage to “move on” whereas nowadays it is recognised that people need to grieve and to share their grief with others. In recognition of this need, the New Zealand website www.miscarriagesupport.co.nz has been set up specifically as a place where people can ask questions and share their experiences online. It is interesting that the “Miscarriages hurt men too” section on the website has generated a lot of posts showing how it is just as important for the father, as well as the mother to go through the grieving process.
As well as providing a forum for people to ask questions and get support the website also helps couples look to the future by offering advice on becoming pregnant and carrying the baby to full term.
