Graeme J Sutherland Memorial Fund
Sutherland Self Help Trust Board
The Graeme J Sutherland Memorial Fund for the Mary Potter Hospice has been established with a gift of $150,000 this month.
The Memorial Fund, which has been established by the Sutherland Self Help Trust, will fund a scholarship programme for the professional development of Hospice’s palliative care clinical staff. Graeme Sutherland, the grandson of the Sutherland Self Help Trust’s founder, was a former trustee and a generous supporter of a number of national and local charities died of cancer in 2011.
At a presentation of the gift Graeme’s brother and Chairman of the Sutherland Self Help Trust, John Sutherland, said that “Furthering the future development of palliative care at Mary Potter Hospice through the establishment of this Memorial Fund is a fitting tribute to my brother who took a personal interest in the charities we support. The Trust and the Sutherland family has had a long association with the Mary Potter Hospice”.
The decision by the Sutherland Self Help Trust to establish the Graeme J Sutherland Memorial Fund was in made in consultation with Graeme’s children Ben, Deanna and Nicholas.
Ben Sutherland presented the gift at Mary Potter Hospice on June 14th. This is the 50th year of Jubilee year of distribution for the Sutherland Self Help Trust, which has distributed more than $24½ million since 1962.
For Ria Earp, Chief
Executive at Mary Potter Hospice, the establishment of the
Graeme J Sutherland Memorial Fund was a wonderful
opportunity for the Hospice to “advance the professional
development of our team by funding access to the latest
research and developments in palliative
care.”
