Medical supplies arrive in Samoa

Medical supplies arrive in Samoa from the Vivere New Zealand Trust

Much needed medical supplies have arrived in Samoa for the Samoa Fire and Emergency Authority to use in treating and assisting the communities of Samoa. This shipment is the third shipment Vivere has sent since formation.

Vivere New Zealand is a charitable trust that has been established to assist with community medical care in the pacific region. To date Vivere has sent three shipments to Samoa for use by the Samoa Fire and Emergency Service, these shipments have included blood sugar testing equipment which is essential for patients with diabetes, basic bandages and dressings, and paramedical training materials to allow the staff reference materials to up skill and increase their current knowledge.

This equipment will be used to provide lifesaving treatment in the ambulances run by the Samoan Fire and Emergency Authority. Currently in Samoa like many other pacific communities diabetes is a large and extensive problem affecting a vast percentage of the population. It is especially important assistance is given toward the management of diabetes, as the world health organization has identified diabetes as a leading cause of death for pacific people.

With Vivere’s assistance, the ambulance officers employed by the Samoa Fire and Emergency Authority have no ability of being able to diagnose and treat a patient who was experiencing a life threatening diabetic emergency. Without these tools these patients may receive delays in receiving life saving definitive care.

Further to being able to diagnose and treat patients who are having life threatening diabetes emergencies, Vivere has also provided basic wound care and bandaging dressings which are often unavailable in the pacific islands.

Vivere also plans to continue its work though developing a variety of community care and provider education, continuing to assist in the provision of medical supplies and assets, promote awareness of illness and injury, and the introduction of prevention programs. However this support is not possible without the grateful donations that Vivere receives, without these donations Vivere would not be able to assist the people of the pacific region.

About Vivere

Vivere New Zealand is a new charitable trust that was incorporated on the 11 January 2012 and is registered with the Charities Commission.

Even in this day and age there is a large portion of the world that does not have good access to medical care, with agencies that provide medical care in these regions sometimes over worked and under resourced. Even with the willingness of people in these countries, it is a struggle for these business and organisations to be viable. This is due to a combination of complications including the availability of the simplest medical supplies, public awareness of community and pre-hospital medical care, and the need to increase the availability of training for both people in the community, and existing medical professionals.

Pacific countries often rely on getting medical supplies, education and assets from countries like New Zealand, Australia and Japan. This limits the availability of the most basic supplies, with some organisations running out of bandages, gloves, and other everyday use items. In addition to this, there is equipment that is not fully functional, due to small, low value parts being unavailable.

Vivere is a New Zealand charity that is committed to assisting and aiding pacific nations in assisting and improving the availability and sustainability of community and emergency based healthcare, within the Pacific Region.

Vivere is a New Zealand based charitable Trust, committed to providing assistance in the provision and development of community based medical care in the Pacific Region. This will be through a variety of community and care provider education, assistance in the provision of medical supplies and assets, awareness of illness and injury, and the introduction of prevention programmes. This will be facilitated in collaboration with existing agencies, organisations and channels that are already present.
It is through these collaborating efforts that Vivere’s vision will be delivered, with a focus on making sure the most appropriate assistance reaches the communities that require it.

Vivere – what is in the name

Why Vivere you may ask?

Ultimately, the goal of any medical assistance, results in people being able to live. The word ‘Vivere’ (pronounced vie va rae) is Latin and Italian for the saying ‘to live’ and so it is from that Vivere was named.
