Tunstall a continued support for people living with MND

Media Release: Tunstall a continued support for people living with MND

For immediate release: 21 June 2013

[1] Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Global Awareness Day, June 21, is internationally celebrated as a solstice turning point – with significance in the hope held that the day will be another turning point in the search for cause, treatment and cure of the disease.

Telehealthcare consultant for Tunstall Healthcare, Warren Duce says the company helps to provide continued assistance and support for people with MND and their carers.

“The health of those living with MND can often deteriorate very rapidly.  Our assistive technology solutions help ensure that all parties can live with as much support as possible, particularly for those who wish to continue living in their own home for as long as is possible,” Mr Duce said.

“Here at Tunstall, we are an end to end solutions provider- we design, test and manufacture the technologies we distribute- so we have the capability to design and update a custom solution to suit the changing requirements of someone living with MND,” he said.

Tunstall’s Bellman & Symfon solutions allow carers to move freely around the home, knowing that the person they care for can quickly and easily get their attention.

“The Bellman & Symfon pager is portable and can be worn by the carer at all times, it has various vibrations and coloured LEDs which notify the wearer which assistive device has been activated by the resident,” Mr Duce said.

“The trigger used may be a pendant that the resident wears at all times, a bed/chair occupancy sensor that alerts when they get out of bed or a chair, or an iVi fall detector that senses if they fall or collapse”

“People living with MND can also benefit from Tunstall’s personal alarm that puts them in immediate contact with our 24 hour response centre”

“The alarm can be used by the resident when their carer is offsite. It’s reassurance, that in an emergency the response operator will always be there to organise the necessary assistance, such as an ambulance, after hours GP and to notify the carer,” Mr Duce said.
