Vote For Fluoridation, Says EBPHA Chief

Vote For Fluoridation, Says EBPHA Chief

The evidence supporting fluoridated water supplies is compelling says a regional health leader.

“The science is quite clear,” says Bryan Gould, Chair of the Eastern Bay Primary Health Alliance (EBPHA). “Fluoridation has been shown without doubt to reduce tooth decay.

“The evidence is compelling, and it is little wonder virtually all dental and medical specialists recommend that we should take notice of what the statistics tell us.”

The former UK Labour MP and shadow cabinet member is urging Whakatane district residents to vote in favour of a fluoridated water supply in the current referendum on the issue.

“It is vital for our dental health, and particularly for our children, that we keep a fluoridated water supply.

“Fluoride exists naturally in most water supplies. Fluoridation of the Whakatane water supply simply ensures the amount of fluoride is at the optimum level to provide the most effective protection for the dental health of our youngsters.”

Mr Gould, who lives in Ohiwa, says the advice from the EBPHA is straightforward.

“Use your vote to ensure that fluoridation is kept in place. Don’t take risks with our children’s teeth.

“Far from going backwards, we should be looking to extend the benefits of fluoridation to those in our district that don’t currently have it.”

The fluoridation referendum in the Whakatane district is ongoing with voting set to finish on October 12.
