Healthy Hearts for all New Zealanders

The Auckland Medical Research Foundation (AMRF) is to hold a free public lecture on a topic of growing interest - Healthy Hearts for all New Zealanders.

Professor Rob Doughty, Heart Foundation Chair of Heart Health says;

Most people in New Zealand will have experienced heart disease in some way, either directly or indirectly by seeing family or friends with the effects of heart disease. Many common risk factors contribute during our lifetime to the development of heart disease. These common factors include obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise. Many of these factors are occurring at earlier stages in our lives, meaning that we are at risk of developing heart disease at much younger ages than previously. Heart disease can be prevented, and heart health research is about finding out how we can improve prevention, detection, treatments and outcomes for the benefit of all New Zealanders. The Heart Foundation Chair in Heart Health at The University of Auckland provides a timely opportunity to develop a research hub dedicated to improving the heart health of New Zealanders. Professor Doughty will discuss heart disease, how research can improve our understanding of heart disease, and practical strategies to improve heart health for all New Zealanders
