Locals fight to protect water supply from toxic mining waste
A concerned group of Karangahake Gorge locals will rally alongside members of Ngati Tamatera outside the Waikato Regional Council Offices tomorrow calling for protection of their water supply, following threats to a local water source from mining pollution.
Protect Karangahake member Ruby Powell says the Regional Council has a responsibility to ensure water supplies in the area are protected from pollution from mining activities and the Council has not been doing its job properly.
“Fresh, clean water is worth much more than gold,” she says.
