Unichem and Life pharmacists ready for flu season

Unichem and Life pharmacists ready for flu season

Every year one in five New Zealanders are affected by flu and more than a million get an annual flu jab. With the chilly season rapidly approaching, Unichem and Life Pharmacies have more than 250 pharmacists across the nation who are qualified and prepared to deliver immunisations to combat this traditional winter foe once again.

“Flu is highly contagious and a serious illness that can be deadly. Anyone can be infected and it’s almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with the virus because it’s transmitted so easily. Whether it’s through the air, from contact with surfaces or other people, the influenza virus can be anywhere. Immunisation is the best form of protection against infection and our pharmacists are able to offer a flu shot with no appointment necessary – just pop in where and when it suits you,” says Alison van Wyk, Head of Professional Services for Green Cross Health.

Before they even visit a pharmacy, people can complete their details securely online at www.flushot.co.nz thanks to Pharmacies first electronic consumer consent system that makes it easier to access health services from your Pharmacist conveniently.

Developed in partnership with SimplHealth, the innovative online consent system will help to reduce the time taken to fill out documentation, freeing up pharmacists to spend more time in consultation with their customers.

“Our pharmacies aren’t just a place to pick up a prescription. We strive to be an integral part of the communities in which we operate and a place where customers can trust they will receive professional care and advice from a pharmacist at a time that’s convenient to them,” says Ms Van Wyk

In addition to the influenza vaccine, Unichem and Life pharmacists are able to administer vaccinations against meningococcal disease, shingles and whooping cough alongside a range of other services.
