Spinal injury ‘Show Off’ Day

Spinal injury ‘Show Off’ Day

There is a new and exciting new wheelchair that’s been developed in NZ and is now getting lots of international attention. It’s called the Ogo and is a uniquely designed hands free wheelchair that could be life changing for some people.

On Saturday the 7th of November the Auckland Spinal Unit in Otara is having a ‘Show Off’ day and everyone is welcome to come along and have a look at the Ogo along with other technology assisting people with spinal injuries.

There is an opportunity to witness a robotic device that’s getting wheelchair users back on their feet.

It’s also a chance be a spectator at wheelchair sporting events, and watch artists who are paralysed from the neck down create masterpieces - by holding the paint brush in their mouths.

The Association for Spinal Concerns (TASC) is a volunteer organisation based at the spinal unit that provides peer support, mentoring and education for injured New Zealanders and their families.

TASC spokesperson Anita O’Connor says the ‘Show Off’ day is lots of fun for disabled and able bodied people.

“Many people would have heard about the spinal unit or know someone who has been injured and ended up in a wheelchair. This event is about sharing the latest technology and gadgets available for wheelchair users as well as showing off their achievements.”

Ms O’Connor says everyone and anyone can come along.
