Ronald McDonald House South Island launches Host a Roast campaign
Registrations are now open for ‘Host a Roast’, with Ronald McDonald House South Island encouraging Kiwis to invite their family and friends to dinner in September, raising funds to provide a home away from home for thousands of families this year.
Proceeds from this exciting new campaign will go towards providing accommodation for families while their seriously ill children undergo hospital treatment in Christchurch and Southland Hospitals.
Ronald McDonald House South Island CEO Matthew Mark says the need for the organisation’s services is increasing, with occupancy for both the 26-room Christchurch House and Ronald McDonald Family Room, Southland Hospital sitting at over 90 per cent for the majority of 2016.
“Our mission is simple: To provide accommodation for families and remove the stressors of everyday life so they can focus on what matters most – helping their children heal.
“However as all kiwi families know, there are significant costs to running a household, and as we receive no direct government funding we rely on community support to keep our doors open 24/7 to families in need.”
Not only is ‘Host a Roast’ a great way of getting together with your family and friends, says Matthew, but it’s a simple way to make a tangible difference to the lives of hundreds of kiwi families.
“Our Family Dinner Programme is a very important part of a family’s stay with us. Not only is it a chance for families to sit down and share a meal together, it is an opportunity to talk to other families, volunteers and staff – helping families regain a sense of normality during what is often the toughest period of their lives.”
So c’mon, don your apron, crank up the oven and ‘Host a Roast’ – because what might be small change to you, can make a huge difference to the lives of families at Ronald McDonald House South Island.
