PRESS RELEASE

Prominent Nursing Leader Fiona Samuel Seeks Fourth DHB Term

Registered Nurse and elected DHB Board member Fiona Samuel is seeking a fourth Wairarapa District Health Board term.

After growing up in South Wairarapa, Samuel was educated in Masterton and has raised three children there. With 25 years as a nurse she has worked in a wide range of coalface health settings.

Samuel’s nursing experience includes emergency, medical and surgical care, general practice, Maori health, management, aged and disability care and clinical quality auditing. Samuel now works as a senior nurse at Wairarapa Hospital. This gives her in-depth knowledge of the system and the challenges patients face.

‘Living and working in Wairarapa for most of my life has allowed me to make strong community connections. This, coupled with three terms of DHB governance and vast clinical and health system knowledge, allows me to provide a strong and educated voice at the board table’, Samuel says.

‘I have spent 9 years as an elected DHB director and I remain absolutely dedicated to continuing my commitment to our community. In a fourth term my focus will be to continue to demand, promote and expect the highest standards of care for Wairarapa people’.

Voting papers will be issued from 16 September with the end of the voting period being 8 October.
