Vaccination And Health Education In The Community
InformationNZ continued its communityfocused work over the weekend, supporting a vibrant series of health initiatives. The weekend began with a highly successful vaccination clinic on Saturday at NaeNae Te Mako, where over 100 vaccines were administered. The clinic saw an exceptional turnout from the Samoan community, alongside participation from the wider community, reflecting growing confidence in preventative healthcare.
On Sunday, the momentum continued with a dedicated health education workshop for Tongan communities, focused on raising awareness about alcoholrelated harm, diabetes prevention, and the benefits of vaccinations. The workshop provided culturally grounded discussions and practical health information.
Muliagatele Bella Bartley highlighted the importance of reaching underserved groups through flexible, communitybased services.
“Our popup clinics are picking up people who have missed or are overdue for vaccinations and are not accessing their usual GP practices. A lot of people are not accessing services due to cost barriers and a lack of understanding about available healthcare options. Through ongoing education to improve health literacy and build trust with communities, InformationNZ is witnessing a significant increase in turnout — particularly among Pacific communities. We are filling in the service gaps, and these service gaps highlight the need for equitable funding allocation from Health New Zealand (Te Whatu Ora) amongst providers, ensuring services like InformationNZ can continue to reach those who are missing out, especially Pacific and Māori communities,” said Muliagatele Bella Bartley, Chief Executive Officer.
The weekend’s events reflect the ongoing commitment of InformationNZ to improving access, trust, and longterm health outcomes across the region.
